The Case for Creating Architectural Models
In the
digital age, it seems the days for pen and paper are long gone when it comes to
architecture.
Today, it
seems 3D CAD models and renderings are now commonplace in the industry,
replacing physical drawings and the process of architectural model making. It
also appears that CGI images are extending its dominance in the architectural
culture but sadly at the expense of the other modes of perception, and in this
case, of architectural models.
Although
these tools have dramatically increased productivity and made a fundamental
impact on the way we design, they seem to create a distance that separates the
object from reality, whereas model making and drawings allow us to make contact
with the object. Now, while we can’t deny the opportunities the new technology
is providing us in architectural modeling, we can’t ignore the art that is in
physical models.
Scale Model Making at AE Models SG
The
architectural industry is one facet of the world that is increasingly relying
on technology. As mentioned, while these technologies have influenced the way
we live and design, it all the more makes us believe that the physical and real
is, more than ever, valuable.
As an
established architectural model making company
in Singapore, we believe the ability of scale models to connect people with
the reality is unmatched. Working with cards, plasters, stones, woods, steels
and glass is the first step towards understanding reality and is very effective
when trying to make an impact.
Scale model making remains fundamental to architecture
Now,
while we work with a full-range technology, model making remains fundamental to
our business and the development of our designs. Although we encourage the use
of precision and predetermined designs with 3D models, we remain true to the
use of models which are loosely assembled and held together with pins.
We don’t
know about you but this process allows us to explore ideas and make decisions
that other methods just don’t provide.
Probably
the most important of all, physical models allow us to impart these spatial
explorations not only to our employees but to our clients and consultants as
well. They enable us to share with them the ins and outs of the project in the
way that even a layman will understand.
We can’t
stress further how design is collaborative. Being able to discuss around scale
models helps us engage everyone, enabling them to contribute ideas, in the
process. In return, it also promotes interaction, exchange of ideas and
engagement within the workplace.
To this
day, we benefit from a dedicated model making team that inspires architects to
use scale models to explore ideas the way we do. If you have a construction
project, allow us to share with you our expertise in scale
model making.
